Before the makeover fun can begin, we gotta start with a blank slate. So, week two is all about the dining room massive clean out!
Week 2 is here and we are moving like a herd of turtles – at least that is what it feels like. Actually, great progress is being made. It’s not the pretty stuff dreams are made of just yet but to get to the finish line, we have to start at the beginning. So, this week is all about the dining room massive clean out.
The One Room Challenge is a 6-week “race” to turn one ho-hum space into a beloved room. I have participated in many of the challenges and I love that in 6 weeks, I have a completed space. This round, I am working with a friend to turn her dining room into a dream study/ library. Catch week 1 here.
Last week I unveiled the room of choice and the inspiration board. In fact, let’s take a look at the before pictures again.
Before…
Our Inspiration Board…
It’s going to be so pretty and if she ever needs a dining room – this space can transition back for the day. We chose lightweight yet functional pieces to help make that happen. Let’s take a deeper look at the redesign.
The Library wall-
Fortunately, this family isn’t afraid of DIY and they will be taking on the library wall! We decided to go with a design that would lend itself to storage of the not so pretty stuff as well as open shelving for books and favorite objects.
The Walls-
The walls are getting a tranquil dose of color. Sherwin Williams, Sea Salt for the walls and library unit and Niebla Azul for a pop of color on the library wall back.
The Lighting-
The lighting will play an important part, here. We will be adding sconces to the front of the library wall for drama and function. These lights can be found on Amazon.
The Desk-
We decided to keep the desk airy feeling with open shelves. But, this desk HAS to work and open shelves are pretty but they are not really practical for real work. So, we will be adding pretty storage that will work hard for the owner.
The Fabrics-
Fabric always adds that much-needed texture and softness to space. We will be using the two print fabrics in an unusual way that I will reveal as the process goes on. The curtains, well, I am finally going to teach you how to use drop cloths to make pinch pleated beauties!
The room will start showing massive changes soon but for now, we are excited to see the hangers leave the chandy and the clutter gone. You all know what a herculean effort that is when redoing your own spaces.
Here’s where we are now.
Check back in next week! In the meantime, have a look at everyone else’s progress on week 2! You can click HERE!
Till Later, Friends!
